Journey on the Oregon Trail
Excerpt from a Pioneer's Journal (Simplified)
August 15, 1845
"Another day on the Oregon Trail. The sun beats down, and the dust is thick. We left our home back east seeking new land, fertile ground, and a fresh start. But this journey is harder than we imagined. We buried young Sarah this morning, taken by the cholera. Many wagons have broken axles, and the rivers are wide and swift. We travel slowly, pushing on about 15 miles a day if we are lucky. Food is running low, and water can be scarce. Yet, we look to the setting sun, believing in a better life ahead in Oregon. We must keep moving; there is no turning back now."
